About Us

Derwent Valley Tours was established to develop a new visitor service in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in 2021, offering tours of this beautiful and unique location.

Operated by the Arkwright Society at Cromford Mills and the Belper North Mill Trust. The new service has been made possible by a grant received from the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Great Place Scheme, funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England.

The tours will enable small groups to enjoy a full day’s tour by minibus from either Derby or Matlock, led by experienced volunteer guides. They will visit the key historical locations of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, as well as many lesser-known ones, giving a unique and intimate perspective on a valley that changed the world.

The tours include a comfortable and COVID-safe minibus, a friendly, knowledgeable guide, and meal options provided by quality local caterers.

Derwent Valley Tours was planned to start in summer 2020, but the COVID pandemic and lockdowns forced the launch to be delayed until summer 2021.

We have bounced back from the dark months of COVID and can now provide the planned trips so that visitors can safely enjoy the valley attractions in small groups, without needing to drive or use public transport.

We hope you enjoy your tour.
