“In the steps of Daniel Defoe” walk, 13th September 2022, 2.30pm

Start place Cromford
Highlights

In 1724 Daniel Defoe visited Matlock Bath but encountered great difficulty due to the steep stony access road. This 2.5 mile circular walk discovers the old road that Defoe used high above the Scarthin mining community. We walk along little known attractive paths and follow the road that Smith and Pennell created in 1745 that finally allowed carriages to reach the spa.
